Lindypendent Thoughts

First things first: I must wish Bob Jenkins a big “Happy Birthday!”

Each and everytime we’re on a conference call — or in the TV compound, or testing our microphones, sometimes even during commercial – we all say, “Hey! Happy birthday, Bob!” Although I’m not terribly sure why. And today, it really is his birthday. I think. Throws me off every time.

There is no IndyCar race this weekend, obviously, but I feel obligated to mention something IndyCar related anyway. So in case you haven’t heard, Alex (Pink) Lloyd will be driving at Homestead for Newman/Haas/Lanigan in the 06 car. So yeah. There’s that.

As you can see, we’re left with a sizable content void to fill. So instead of rambling aimlessly about nothing in particular, I solicited questions on my Twitter page (@lindythackston) so that I can ramble with a purpose. Big mistake:

How do we get a date with you?

Ummm, wait until I ask you.

What did your duties of 500 Festival Princess consist of and do you still wear the tiara on special occasions?

Basically being an ambassador for the 500 Festival, attending every event in May. And I’m wearing the tiara right now. Because it’s Friday morning. Duh.

Any hidden talents (other than beer pong)?

My beer pong talents aren’t hidden. They’re quite well know. Not as well known is that I’m actually pretty good at racing video games at arcades. I left Robbie Floyd in the dust after Texas.

Has Jack passed the 1,000-mark yet?

On the SAT’s? Nope.

For Twitter? He’s getting close.

Who’s the driver who wouldn’t let you get through a complete interview because he/she continued to flirt. Mutoh? Patrick?

Does Robbie Buhl count?

What’s you opinion of DirectTV dropping Versus and the implications for IndyCar?

I think it stinks and I hope they can get it worked out. There is more than IndyCar on VS, and it would leave a lot of disappointed viewers.

Funniest on air moment you’ve ever had?

I would like to answer this – I get this question all the time – but honestly, in 9 years on TV, I can’t think of an example. Everything runs together. I can’t think of an embarrassing moment either. But I’m sure I’ve had some.

Do you get to go to Japan, and what do you do when you get time off between races & off season?

No, Jack goes to Japan. I’ll be doing college football (Florida State vs BYU).

Between races, I try to work out a bit first thing when I get up (or else it just won’t happen). I hang with my brother a lot, do laundry, pay bills, study for whatever event is next, watch tv, maybe go to my pool, walk and talk to Baxter, Facebook, Twitter, and text. (Ugh. I’m not re-reading that paragraph because I sound like a total loser.) Although I did get the Rosetta Stone in German a few weeks ago and have been doing that. I’ve come a long way since I texted someone, “I see Deutsch, but not German.”

I would like to know who would win in a fight, a grilled cheese or a taco?

Taco.  [Pfffffft. Wrong. -RH]

If broadcasting didn’t exist, what would you be?

Unemployed. 100%.

What are three things you like about Jack Arute, and three things that irk you about him?

Like:

  1. No messing around, he says what he feels.
  2. He doesn’t scream at the navigation chick like everybody else.
  3. He doesn’t hold it against me that when I first met him, I told him he had something on his forehead. Turns out it was Ash Wednesday.

Irk:

  1. He gets to track so early I look like an underachiever.
  2. He can squeal his golf cart tires a ton better than I can mine.
  3. He gets the “Madonna mic” headset.

Who is in the Firehawk suit?

I have no idea!!

What’s the deal with sushi? Is it the official food of the Indy Racing League?

Now that you mention it, maybe it should be. A lot of us eat sushi quite often. I probably have it 4 times a week. My brother and I go to the same place and order 6 or 7 rolls. It recently occurred to me that I eat maybe 2 total, yet we split the bill.

If given the opportunity, which track do you want to drive (can be non-IRL) and what kind of car would you take there?

Laguna Seca, and something fast. Maybe a Ferrari.

S%#! LIST
The 5 Worst Things Drivers Do to Initiate Road Rage

  1. Not using cruise control on long stretches of interstate and going faster and slower and faster and slower … GAAAAH!!! PICK A SPEED!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Driving slower than the slow lanes while in the fast lane. This is probably 1(b), actually.
  3. Keeping the turn-signal on for hours at a time (aka, The Official Pasttime of Florida).
  4. Maintaining a HUGE distance between themselves and the car in front during traffic backups, allowing entire lanes of no-good cheaters to squeeze right on in.
  5. People who think they’re driving, but who are actually sitting in my backseat.

^^ Jesus. Here we go again. This is pretty much why I stopped talking to people at the Chicago race … and started snorting puddles of ethanol.

YOU BASTARD, HOBBSON. Now’ I’m compelled to link to you. Oh, you’re evil. You’ll pay a heavy price for this.

Lindy, I like you all the more now. And I want to hang out with you. I’m not asking you out on a date. I meant this in a girlfriend-to-girlfriend going to the movies or for a mani/pedi kind of way. Or a go find the best local burger/fries after the race kind of way. (Can I borrow those cricket sounds now…?).

  • By dylan, September 4, 2009 @ 1:49 pm

Roy, I think your getting overshadowed by Lindy…

  • By Paul Dalbey, September 4, 2009 @ 2:06 pm

I hope someone snaps a picture of LindyCar at the season-ending banquet wearing her tiara!

  • By Carrie, September 4, 2009 @ 2:19 pm

I’m totally asking you out on a date.

  • By Pete Richards, September 4, 2009 @ 3:02 pm

I can’t believe someone that went to Purdue can write so well!! Really funny stuff…

  • By H.B. Donnelly, September 4, 2009 @ 5:16 pm

It’s good to know that, while I may never make as much money or be as tan as Jack Arute, I have a higher SAT score than him.

Also, Five Guys fries (check), pet peeves about other motorists (check), Laguna Seca in a Ferrari (check), beer pong (check)….can I get a date after you’re done with Carrie?

  • By dylan, September 4, 2009 @ 6:42 pm

I’d take either an Indycar at MIS, a NASCAR car at Daytona, or a Ford GT at Road America.

  • By Bickelmom, September 5, 2009 @ 9:05 pm

I think this shows how much the women of racing fandom enjoy finding kindred spirits. Thanks, Lindy, for some funny and intelligent female blogging! And thank you, Roy, for sharing your forum! This is a great feature.

  • By Bash, September 6, 2009 @ 4:57 pm

Paul, the photo snapper at the banquet should be you!
Lindy – LMAO funny – thanks for sharing your thoughts here at the Pagoda…

  • By Kohl, September 8, 2009 @ 6:45 pm

    @bash we’re working on that ;)

Great stuff, Lindy. I see you freelance with blogs now, too. :D
